The History of Compass Tanks
Compass Tanks was established in October 1992. Bindon Burns and Michael Pfeiffer, both unemployed at the time, recognised a market demand for good quality, traditionally made rainwater tanks. They applied to the South Australian government for financial assistance but were rejected on the grounds that the business would not be viable due to strong competition.
Undeterred, they borrowed a meager capital and with the assistance of Noel Lennard, a tank maker with over 40 years experience, the first tank rolled out of the workshop on 1 November 1992. In their first 12 months, Compass Tanks produced approximately 250 galvanized tanks.
In the second year of business, Matthew Field joined the team as a keen 17 year old. His loyalty, enthusiasm and hardworking ethos have always been a valuable asset to Compass Tanks. Matthew now leads the workshop team as Operations Manager.
In the past 5 years, Compass Tank's growth exceeded initial expectations leading to a new workshop being opened on Australia Day, 2006. However, Australia 's current water crisis has resulted in unprecedented demand for rainwater tanks. In order to supply this increase in demand, a second new workshop is on the way. The new workshops incorporate the use of the latest machinery available. While these new developments ensure more efficient production, Compass Tanks will not be lowering their standards. Tanks will continue to be manufactured to the highest standard with all workmanship guaranteed.
